Smart home technology use devices connected to the Internet of things (IoT) to automate and monitor in-home systems. It stands for Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology. And you thought it was just a word? Smart home technology allows users to control and monitor their connected home devices from Smart home apps, smartphones, or other networked devices. Users can remotely control connected home systems whether they are home or away. This allows for more efficient energy and electric use as well as ensuring your home is secure. Smart home technology contributes to health and well-being enhancement by accommodating people with special needs, especially older people Probably the most prevalent example of this are motor sensor light switches. These switches aren't exactly hard to use. Most of us flip them on without a thought. But what if you walk into the laundry room with an armload of clothes and can't even see the switch, let alone get a hand free to turn it on? Or when you're carrying a heavy box or bags of groceries from the garage and can't reach the light switch to turn it off? You have to make a second trip, or the light just gets left on. So right there are just two very good reasons to make the switch, to motion detection. A motion sensor light switch differs from the traditional light switch in both design and functionality, but most importantly, the most fundamental distinction is the use of a motion sensor to detect movement and to automatically turn on the light in that specific area. This type of approach has been around for more than a decade and it has proven to be very useful in many applications: I’m sure you have encountered at least one motion sensor light in a public bathroom or in a hotel, but, as these devices became more reliable and affordable, they are now quite widespread in homes as well. In order to properly detect the presence of a human being inside a room, the motion sensor can take advantage of several types of technologies: it can be a pyroelectric sensor which measures the infrared radiation and, since everything emits a certain level of IR radiation, it is quite easy to detect major fluctuations emitted when a person passes by. However, its disadvantage is that the sensor will detect only significant movements and only in direct line of sight. The second major type of occupancy sensors can use the ultrasonic technology to detect smaller changes into the environment so the light doesn’t turn off when you’re reading a book or typing on the computer keyboard. Here, the sensor sends a small pulse into the room, which returns and allows the device to detect any changes. All set to make the switch?
